We are so pleased to have you join the Unplugged Rebels NZ team. We hope this training pack will help you to feel empowered and supported to spread the word even further. We hope that this will, in turn, make New Zealand a safer and more supportive place for our young people to enjoy their childhoods without the pressure and negative influence of smartphones.

There is a lot of data and information to try and remember, so to keep things simple, here are some of the key things to have on the tip of your tongue so you feel like you always have something useful and informative to add to any smartphone related conversation!

Some of these conversations can be, well let's be honest, a little awkward. No one wants to be told how to parent and we certainly don't to come across that way, so here are some top tips for when it comes to chatting to parents about the issue.
03. Letter to Head of School
Template letter to first make contact with your HOS. Please feel free to adapt in whatever way is most relevant to you.

Always an exciting but nerve wracking prospect going in to a formal meeting with the HOS or other faculty members. A few tips to help support you with this initial meeting and hopefully make it as successful and enjoyable as possible. You've got this!
04. Managing Whatsapp
Starting a parent Whatsapp group is a great starting point for growing a supportive and likeminded ground of parents as well as encouraging conversation and potential school and community initiatives.
05. Setting up a table or stand
This is a great, low key way to get the message out to your school and invite members of the community to chat about the topic and get some useful information. School fairs, family days etc.

Have your school offered to put something about Unplugged Rebels in their newsletter? Great! Or perhaps it is something you could suggest when you meet you your HOS? Here is a template of the sort of thing would might like to send them. Feel free to adapt as you see fit.
08. Poster & Flyer
To print, hand out and just generally spread the word! Libraries, gyms, public notice boards! Anywhere you think they will be seen!
09 A. Presentation 10 Mins
10-15 Minute approx. PowerPoint presentation to use when meeting with your PTA, group of parents or maybe a short online seminar for interested parents - useful for groups that want a bit more information but don't want to make a whole lunch time/evening session out of it. Notes are included - Please adapt these to suit you.
10. Evidence
Some of the data and research formatted into a concise and well organised one pager. Useful as handouts, talking points or posters.
11. Parent Survey
Useful as an initial way to get some information about your particular school environment. This could be something you get your HOS behind and send out school wide, or have as an option for parents and/or students to fill out when setting up a table at a school event.
12. Colouring in pages
To print, hand out and just generally spread the word! Great for Libraries, waiting rooms, schools! Anywhere you think they will be seen!
13. Alternative School letter
A two-pager which you can share with your school. It explains the research and alternatives with simple graphics and bullet points. Add your school logo to the top right hand corner.
